Review:

Title: Laudate
Developer: Aycka Soft
Genre: Resources for Catholic Faith
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Primary Audience: All Catholics (or those inquiring)
Version: 6.185.0
Platform: iOS, Android,
Cost: Free

The Laudate App was created by the Ayca Soft developer as a resource for Catholics to have easy access to different prayer, sacrament, and bible related resources. These include the Daily Readings, Liturgy of the Hours, Order of the Mass, Liturgical calendar, Daily Prayers, Daily Bible Verses, Rosery and Chaplet, the Stations of the Cross, prayers, Latin Prayers, Confession guide, Catechism, Catholic media, EWTN, Catholic Bytes, Heart of Mary, Bible Study, and Vatican Documents. The audience they created this app for includes all practicing and non-practicing Catholics as well as those who are inquiring to learn about the faith. It is not a guide through the faith, however it is a resource that condenses the many different parts of the faith into one comprehensive app that holds different resources to the faith in an easy to access and convenient way.

First Media Key: Balance
The Laudate app is used to be able to balance both information and interaction for prayer. Half of the app is showing the information that people may be looking for on what the words are for specific prayers, and even showing the daily readings that would be read at the mass. They are also able to balance in an interactive part for those who are going to the sacrament of Confession to be able to make a checklist as well as bookmarks on things they want to remember, and even a virtual rosery that allows you to pray each bead. Being able to interact with the app allows something for every viewer and balances out the information with a connective interaction with it. “Temperance is the moral virtue that moderates the attraction of pleasures and provides balance in the use of created goods”, which is why the balance of information and interaction the app provides is a good feature (CCC 1809). It is attractive, easy, and fun to use, but is not created to be addictive as it easy to utilize then put down when it is no longer needed.

Second Media Key: Attitude Awareness
The Laudate app is a clearly Catholic resource that is available to all but is specifically geared toward providing a resource for Catholics to be able to find a variety of information. It does not pretend to cater to other religions, nor does it include information for anything other than the Catholic faith. If someone is looking for this type of information the app is clear that they will not find that information on it. The overall attitude of the app is to give people the opportunity to see and participate in Catholic teachings and practices on their own.

Third Media Key: The Dignity of the Human Person
A major way that the app is able to uphold the dignity of the human person is by making it easy to use without any surprises. “The dignity of man rests above all on the fact that he is called to communion with God”, and this is why there is a high level of importance for the media, specicically the Laudate app. It also is seeking to bring people closet to Christ through prayer and providing information that will help to bring them closer to the faith. Specifically through the Confession section of the app, it is useful for both those who have attended the sacrament of confession before and for those who are new to it. It walks the user through each step including prayers to the Holy Spirit, and an examination of conscience to help the person know what to say inside the confessional. It does not seek to make to difficult or exclude anyone who does not know what they are doing, but rather gives them the dignity to be able to understand it easily and participate in the sacrament.

Fourth Media Key: Truth-Filled
A great part of the Laudate app is that all of the items that are found within the app are able to be cross-referenced with any other Catholic resource and found to be accurate and in line with church doctrine and church teaching. Because of this, people who are looking to use the easy accessibility feature that the app gives, can also trust that the information is true and is not aiming to mislead them. People must be able to trust each other as “The virtue of truth gives another his just due. Truthfulness keeps the just mean between what ought to be expressed and what ought to be kept secret: it entails honesty and discretion”. (CCC 2469). The truth is what allows each of us to I like to be able to access an app where I feel the content is informed and accurate because it means that I do not have to worry about the truth in what I am reading. The less I trust a website or app, the less I will choose to use it in my daily life or recommend it to others seeking out the same information I am.

Fifth Media Key: Inspiring
Despite how simple the app is to use, it does not seem to be structured in a way that would traditionally inspire someone to continue on the app. There are no “gold stars” that pop up for praying certain prayers or a “daily use” achievement award that is usually seen on many apps to inspire people to come back and use the app again the next day. However, it does seek to bring people closer to Christ and allow Him to inspire them and ignite a fire within their hearts which drives them to seek Him and in doing so they are able to use the app as a resource and a guide through prayer. It is not inspiring the increased use of the app, rather inspiring the users to seek out the truth in God and His word.

Sixth Media Key: Skillfully Developed
The app is simple and yet filled with information with every click. Each section is clearly labeled and behind the tap of a finger holds all of the relevant information that would be associate with the topic. A great example includes the Holy Rosery. If a user chooses to click onto the rosery, it moves along with them toward every bead and provides the users with the prayers that would go along with the bead so that they can be sure to pray the way through it. The developers needed to not only know the information, but be able to place it throughout the app in a way that can be commonly understood and found by the users.

Seventh Media Key: Motivated by and Relevant to Experience
The information is relevant to all those in the Catholic circle who are looking to be able to pray throughout the day. It is a common experience for people to be looking to remember a prayer or even learn a new one, but not know where to look for the information. This app is set to provide the needed information as well as other features so that when the user clicks onto it they are able to find the information clearly and without trouble. It is a simple yet clear app that only holds the relevant things to the everyday needs of a Catholic or someone seeking to learn the Catholic faith. Because many experience this need, it has become a useful and popular app.

Recap
The Laudate app is a great resource for Catholics to be able to use for reliable information regarding prayer, the Bible, the Holy Mass, the sacrament of reconciliation, and so much more. All of their daily prayer needs can be met with the help and guidance that the app holds. Not only does it have the words to each prayer, it connects the users into the Catholic media, podcasts, and bible studies to help further the user’s ability to gain knowledge and information. It is a fast and easy way to reference a prayer that they forget and even learn many new ones including the words in Latin. This app in particular makes great connections seven media keys as it seeks to bring people toward the truth and it is relevant within each person’s daily and prayer lives. The review of the media is helpful to the mass population because it gives them an accurate read on not only what the app is, but if it will be easy to use and the type of information it will give them. Knowing both the good and the bad parts of the app helps them make an informed decision on whether or not this app will meet their needs and if they want to choose to utilize it for their individual purposes in their lives.
