Review:Clash of Clans is a mobile game that was originally released in 2012. In the game's 12-year lifespan, it has been one of the most popular games in the App Store due to its engaging content and frequent updates.
Clash of Clans is successful because of its balance between the fun content and different strategic methods of playing. The main purpose of the game is to attack other players’ bases and defend your own, particularly in content such as clan wars and league war. This content, along with in-game monthly events, promote teamwork and planning in order to be the most successful as you can be within the game. Users also need to balance their screen time when it comes to this app because a lot of people can find it addicting. In order to keep this balance, the game has an implemented a built-in screen time tracker that limits users to a certain number of hours a day.
When it comes to attitude awareness, the app promotes competitiveness and achievement. Clash of Clans encourages the pursuit of resources and power, which may lead players to become overly concerned with gathering resources to upgrade their base and troops or become obsessed with reaching as high of a trophy level as possible. Being aware of this helps players maintain a healthy and positive attitude toward the game, keeping the userbase a more friendly and positive one. One example of this was the removal of the global chat within the app, due to a lot of toxicity that did not create the desired positive attitude.
The game's treatment of characters as troops doesn’t emphasize the dignity of the human person since they are expendable and treated as pawns in order to gain resources or trophies. The game jokingly does a good job at creating the dignity of the human person with their ads, even making some of the weaker troops come through at the most important moments. Within clans, players are reminded of the importance of treating fellow clan members with respect in order to succeed. The dignity of the human person is emphasized in the fact that every clan member is important in order to win wars or complete events within the game. The game’s chat and social features emphasize how important it is to communicate and work together in order to become successful. In the Catechism of the Catholic Church it states, "The human person...is endowed with reason, is the author of his own acts, and therefore is responsible for them." This means that the human person is responsible for their own actions and that players should balance their time and resource management both in the game and with the way that they play the game.
The mobile app is not one that is truth-filled. The game is fantasy-based, so it doesn’t really seek to promote anything that is truthful. When it comes to real life, the game can resemble the consequences of decisions when it comes to managing resources. The conflicts in the game are not truth-filled either, and instead exaggerate the conflict and create it in a simplified manner.
Clash of clans can be inspiring in the sense that it forces players to think strategically and work with others in order to achieve a goal. The satisfaction of building a well-defended base or winning a coordinated Clan War encourages a lot of perseverance and planning.
The game is skillfully developed since it is highly polished, with vibrant graphics and engaging animations that make it appealing to players of all ages. The sound effects, character design, and progression system do a great job at keeping its players invested. The frequent updates and seasonal content add freshness, demonstrating the developers' commitment to maintain a good experience for its users.
Clash of clans is motivating through its progression system, where players can upgrade their bases, train new troops, and unlock achievements. Clan Wars provide a sense of community and collective purpose, which can be very motivating for players. However, it’s important to approach the game with the understanding that it’s designed to encourage continued engagement, which may sometimes lead to overuse or in-app spending.
Clash of clans can be a fun and strategic way to connect with friends and exercise creativity and planning skills. This is especially true for any teenagers that enjoy playing strategic games while also socializing with other players. In particular, for those who enjoy games that involve a lot of base-building and resource collecting. By applying the Church’s 7 Media Keys, players understand the game's positive aspects while being mindful of excessive playtime or spending. It is important to play the game responsibly since it can be a rewarding and social experience when done in this manner.
